Well, as you know from my previous post, I am editing my novel. I am following Holly Lisle’s ‘One Pass Manuscript Revision’ guide — since I really only want to revise it once.
Anyway, so I’ve been considering these themes in my novel Adenine and this is what I came up with.
“Bad things happen to good people.”
“Sometimes good people do bad things.”
“A girl raised to fear the world must now confront her fears and face the world instead.”
“Sometimes, tough love is necessary.”
I’m really having trouble concentrating today thanks to the builders next door which have some immense mechanical contraption making large banging noises as it pushes large steel rods into the ground.
So I made a goal to wait three days before I started revising my novel. It’s two days later and I fear if I wait any longer I will go crazy. So today, I am going to go through, on paper, each chapter, one by one and improve on my novel. I know this is a necessary part of the novel writing process, but I do suspect it will be the more difficult aspect of the process.
How long will it take me to edit and revise?
Well, so long as I can keep my perfectionistic tendencies under control, maybe two weeks, maybe three? Anyway, my goal is to get this darned book finished so I can begin writing my next book.
My next book will require a new pen name since it’s written in a very different genre. So while you won’t hear anything about it on this blog, perhaps you’ll stumble upon it one day.
*Collects makers, red pens, blue pens, prints out hundreds of pages and gets to revising*
You are reading it here first before anyone else knows.
I’ve finished! Woooo! It’s only the first draft but I’m really excited about this book. In three weeks I’ve managed to write about 85000 words.
It’s 9pm and I’ve been writing since 7am this morning. I have work tomorrow morning and wanted to get it finished before then. Let me tell you:
I. Am. Exhausted.
I swear my eyes are as square as the glasses I wear 🙂
I managed 11 thousand words today, and am now about to start the revising stage of my book (editing). I can’t wait! Hopefully I’ll be finished with that in 2 – 4 weeks, I’ll pass it around to Beta readers and of course, get a professional proofreader to look at it.
Wish me luck!
Well, well. I thought this was going to be a 16 chapter novel, but it seems the end is coming quicker than anticipated. In the last two chapters, chapter 10 and 11, Adenine’s fate will be decided by a court of law. Will she sacrifice herself to save her mother, or will she let her pay for her crimes? What has happened to Frooby, the boy that has always protected her? Will she let him die or will she save him?
Will Healer Euka convince the court to hand over Klawdia to the healers? Or will she be banished to her home lands where she is hunted and despised?
So many questions to answer, so many plot lines to wrap up. I doubt I’ll be emerging from my office anytime soon over the next few days. Wish me luck while I complete the first draft of the first novel that I intend to approach publishers with.
Yes, I am talking about the stack of books balanced on my head.
